Some mothers wonder and worry about how they're going to manage a new baby when they already have a toddler at home. The thought of being up and ready, let alone looking put together for photos, after only a week of adjusting to this new normal, would be too much for some. And then there is Cate; who had already run an errand with her toddler and eight-day-old Nella that very morning before I even arrived.
This mama is one of the most authentic people I've met. Anyone who knows her knows she keeps it real... real real. Anyway, Cate never had newborn photos taken before and was a bit apprehensive about what it would be like. She kept stressing that she really just wanted some casual family photos at home and isn't into placing her baby in unrealistic positions. I just love it when a client's vision lines up 100% with my own! I don't ask my families to do any strange or uncomfortable poses - allow the baby to lead the session, and just be you! That's what I love about lifestyle photography, especially when it comes to newborns. It is probably the most precious time to capture those candid every day moments at home.
Coming into this newborn session I was so excited because (1) they are a family I've grown close to over the last two years as we were on maternity-leave simultaneously, and (2) I knew it would be a very relaxed shoot because I was toting my own little newborn with me - so we all had to be flexible. Luckily mine slept through most of the session, and tiny Nella, while awake and alert for much of it, was a perfect angel the entire time.
Already adored by her family and being swooned over by all... welcome home baby Nella!
